Amanda Osorio

I am a lawyer. I went to Hope College for undergrad and WMU Cooley law for my JD here in Grand Rapids.

I practice with Mitchell Intellectual Property law in Grand Rapids, MI.

I work with innovators to help them protect the work that they create; the brain stuff. We handle copyrights, trademarks, patents and other business law.

I am really excited to get into international IP work, the wine and craft brew industries, fashion IP, tech start-ups, and entertainment IP. Also, I speak Spanish and am trying to learn French.

Q: What brought you into The Factory?
A: I needed a place to start and to connect. I stayed because I love the connections and learning from all of the members.

Q: What do you like most about what you do?
A: Learning. I am kind of a nerd so I really love learning about what other people do. I know I don't have the skills to create a new app or design a kick-ass logo so I really like when I can learn what you do. The best part of my job is being able to help awesome, creative people keep doing what they do without worrying about other people stealing it.

I also really like showing people that lawyers aren't all scary and intimidating. I'm just like you, except I learned law and you learned crazy cool other stuff.

Q: If you could trade places with a person you admire for the day, who would that be and what would you be doing?
A: I would probably trade places with an owner of a winery in France and I would learn how to make champagne.

Q: What is your favorite local eatery around The Factory and what do you order?
A: I really love San Chez Bistro. They catered my wedding on the third floor of the building (right below the factory!) when it was an event space. My favorite tapa is the Blue Cheese Fritters. Donkey on Wealthy is another favorite of mine.

Q: When you have free time, what hobby are you passionately pursuing?
A: I am really focused on my business development and social media marketing right now, so most of my free time is spent reading books, watching vlogs and learning how to effectively use social media. Learning how to hustle effectively (thank you Gary Vaynerchuk).

When I am not doing that, I try to spend all of my free time with my husband Celvin, my parents & brother.
