BIO

I'm the creative force behind KnpUniversity, which is a site for PHP and Symfony tutorials.

I graduated from GVSU with a degree in Human Resources, International Business and Spanish and even used that when I first graduated working for Perrigo in Allegan -- which was a wonderful experience.

Now my focus is on creating an amazing learning experience for developers aspiring to improve their PHP or Symfony chops.

Q&A

Q: What brought you into The Factory?
A: I recently moved from Nashville, TN to Grand Rapids and immediately wanted to be working in the center of the tech culture here. One of the best ways I've found to do that is through co-working.

I've stayed at the Factory for the awesome community, events and support that it offers. Along with one of the most Zen places to work I've ever found.

Q: What do you like most about what you do?
A: I love the variety that my work offers. One minute I'm coming up with theme ideas and bad puns for a tutorial and the next I'm deep into video editing, transitions and animations.

And I've started to dive into front-end coding, so I'll boot up my local server and make changes to the site.

Plus, there is nothing better than going to a conference or getting a tweet from someone who was able to learn something quicker because of a tutorial we've published.

Q: If you could trade places with a person you admire for the day, who would that be and what would you be doing?
A: This is tough, it's either Captain Jean-Luc Picard or Emma Watson.... Let's go with Emma, because first of all she was in Harry Potter.

But more importantly for the work she is doing with UN on gender equality. And as Emma I would totally be traveling to give talks and forward the cause.

Q: What is your favorite local eatery around The Factory and what do you order?
A: I love Aperitivo Cheese shop at the Downtown market, and I would be eating my weight in goat cheese, feta and crackers.

Q: When you have free time, what hobby are you passionately pursuing?
A: Learning more about design, javascript and the bike trails around the greater Grand Rapids area.
